High-Sensitivity Motion Sensing and Ambient Light Detection for Smart Buildings
As modern architecture shifts toward sustainable, automated infrastructure, commercial lighting systems require highly precise front-end sensing. Meeting these demands requires more than just scheduling; it requires real-time responsiveness to human occupancy and shifting daylight.
To provide a robust, standardized entry point for smart buildings, MEAN WELL has launched the DLS-2XX Series DALI-2 Infrared (PIR) Motion Sensors. Combining certified DALI-2 interoperability with high-sensitivity pyroelectric detection, this series serves as an intelligent front-end catalyst for energy-efficient digital lighting networks.
Dual Models Engineered for Varying Heights
Every building layout features unique structural constraints. To accommodate everything from standard drop-ceilings to expansive commercial entryways, the DLS-2XX series offers two specialized models:
- DLS-203-P (Low-Altitude Optimized): Designed for a typical installation height of 3 meters, offering a focused detection radius of 3–4 meters. Ideal for office spaces, conference rooms, and standard corridors.
- DLS-208-P (High-Altitude Optimized): Built for elevated placement at a typical installation height of 8 meters, extending its detection radius to 5–6 meters. Perfect for open lobbies, logistics hubs, and high-ceiling public spaces.
Both variations are available in both recessed ceiling mount and surface mount enclosures, giving installers complete architectural flexibility.
Core Technical Features
1. Dual-Technology Smart Sensing
The DLS-2XX family pairs Passive Infrared (PIR) pyroelectric tracking with an integrated ambient light sensor. By capturing human movement while simultaneously measuring ambient lux levels in real-time, the sensors allow the central system to execute automated daylight harvesting, fluid dimming transitions, and situational scene management.
2. Seamless DALI-2 Ecosystem Integration
Fully compliant with the international IEC 62386 standard, the DLS-2XX series integrates natively with MEAN WELL’s DLC-02 master controllers, DALI touch panels, and intelligent LED drivers. Standardizing on this open digital architecture eliminates proprietary communication bottlenecks, minimizes control wiring overhead, and simplifies long-term system maintenance.
Primary Application Scenarios
The DLS-2XX family excels in high-traffic, transient structural spaces where manual switching leads to massive energy waste:
- Corridors & Stairwells: Instantly triggering pathways to full brightness upon occupancy, then dimming or turning off after programmable delay periods.
- Pantry Rooms & Restrooms: Providing hands-free, automated illumination that ensures safety and comfort while slashing idle power consumption.
- Commercial Offices & Public Infrastructure: Acting as the primary data collection nodes to help facilities balance optimal lighting quality with rigorous energy-saving mandates.
