Overview

NPF-40-42 is the 42V output model of this series: rated current 0.96A, rated power 40.32W, typical efficiency 90%.

NPF-40 series is a 40W AC/DC LED driver featuring the dual modes constant voltage and constant current output. NPF-40 operates from 90～305VAC and offers models with different rated voltage ranging between 12V and 54V. Thanks to the high efficiency up to 90%, with the fanless design, the entire series is able to operate for -40℃ ～ +85℃ case temperature under free air convection. The entire series is rated with IP67 ingress protection level and is suitable to work for a variety of applications at dry, damp or wet locations.

  1. 1. All parameters NOT specially mentioned are measured at 230VAC input, rated current and 25℃ of ambient temperature.
  2. 2. Please refer to "DRIVING METHODS OF LED MODULE".
  3. 3. Ripple & noise are measured at 20MHz of bandwidth by using a 12" twisted pair-wire terminated with a 0.1uf & 47uf parallel capacitor.
  4. 4. Tolerance : includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
  5. 5. De-rating may be needed under low input voltages. Please refer to “STATIC CHARACTERISTIC” sections for details.
  6. 6. Length of set up time is measured at first cold start. Turning ON/OFF the driver may lead to increase of the set up time.

Is the NPF-40-42 rated for wet or outdoor use?

Yes. The NPF-40-42 is IP67 approved and operates at a case temperature (Tcase) of -40°C to +85°C, with load derating at higher temperatures. The 150.0 × 53.0 × 35.0 mm sealed housing suits outdoor compact luminaires, horticultural enclosures, and damp industrial applications; follow the IP waterproof installation cautions in MEAN WELL's user manual.

What LED applications match the NPF-40-42's 42V 40W output?

The NPF-40-42 supplies 42V DC at 0.96A (40.32W) in constant-current mode with a CC range of 25.2–42V. It is appropriate for compact 42V LED modules used in small outdoor accent fixtures, shelf or display lighting with 42V LED arrays, and low-power industrial work lights that specify 42V constant-current drive.

How does the NPF-40-42 compare to the NPF-40-36 and NPF-40-48?

All three share IP67, the 150.0 × 53.0 × 35.0 mm housing, and 0.49 kg weight. NPF-40-36 is 36V/1.12A (40.32W, CC 21.6–36V); NPF-40-42 is 42V/0.96A (40.32W, CC 25.2–42V); NPF-40-48 is 48V/0.84A (40.32W, CC 28.8–48V). All are the same wattage; the choice is determined by the LED string's rated voltage.

Does the NPF-40-42 support universal input voltage?

Yes. The NPF-40-42 accepts 90–305VAC (or 127–431VDC), so it operates on 120VAC North American, 230VAC European, or 277VAC mains without any input switching. Note that output derating may be needed at low input voltages (see the sheet's static characteristic).
