Over 15 years experience of providing support of MEAN WELL Power Supplies
Description
Description
The DDR-120A is a 120W DIN Rail type DC-DC converter for railway and industrial applications. With a 9~18Vdc input range (nominal 12Vdc), it steps down from 12Vdc on-board bus supplies to isolated 12V, 24V, or 48V outputs. Compliant with EN50155:2021 S1 level and rated to withstand shock and vibration per IEC61373, it operates reliably from -40~+70°C in demanding transport environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the DDR-120A-48 to supply 48V PoE switches from a 12V battery system?
Yes. The DDR-120A-48 accepts 9–18V DC input and delivers 48V at up to 2.1A (100.8W). This is enough to power a small PoE switch for IP cameras or wireless access points in a battery-backed installation such as a mobile command post or off-grid telecom shelter.
Is this converter suitable for generating a 48V bus for telecom equipment in a remote site?
The DDR-120A-48 can convert a low-voltage 9–18V DC source to a 48V nominal telecom bus at up to 2.1A. Its -40°C to +85°C operating range and fanless design make it well suited for unattended remote telecom cabinets where maintenance access is limited.
Can I power 48V DC motor drives with the DDR-120A-48?
The DDR-120A-48 provides 48V at up to 2.1A (100.8W), which can work for small 48V DC motors or motor controllers that stay within that power envelope. Be aware that motor inrush currents can exceed steady-state draw, so verify that peak demands do not exceed the converter's output capability.
Can the DDR-120A-48 handle high-humidity environments inside a marine or coastal enclosure?
The DDR-120A-48 operates from -40°C to +85°C and features 4KVdc input-output isolation, but it does not carry an IP-rated enclosure on its own. For marine or coastal installations with high humidity and salt air, you should mount it inside a sealed IP65 or higher rated cabinet to protect against condensation and corrosion.
Is the DDR-120A-48 a good fit for powering 48V LED lighting arrays from a vehicle battery?
It can convert a 12V nominal vehicle battery (within the 9–18V input range) to 48V for LED drivers or lighting strips. At 100.8W total output, it supports moderate lighting loads. The slim DIN rail form factor and fanless operation make it easy to integrate into vehicle electrical panels.
