APV-12E-5 is the 5V output model of this series: rated current 2A, rated power 10W, typical efficiency 75%.

APV-12E series is one 12W AC/DC constant voltage mode single output LED power supply. It accepts input 180~264VAC and provides four models with different output voltage, 5V, 12V, 15V,24V, respectively, that the small wattage LED applications employ the most frequently. Exploiting Class II design (without FG pin) and adopting the 94V-0 flame retardant plastic enclosure, APV-12E ideally fits the entry-level LED applications.

Test conditions and notes9

1. All parameters NOT specially mentioned are measured at 230VAC input, rated load and 25℃ of ambient temperature.
2. Ripple & noise are measured at 20MHz of bandwidth by using a 12" twisted pair-wire terminated with a 0.1uf & 47uf parallel capacitor.
3. Tolerance : includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
4. Derating may be needed under low input voltage. Please check the static characteristics for more details.
5. The power supply is considered as a component that will be operated in combination with final equipment. Since EMC performance will be affected by the complete installation, the final equipment manufacturers must re-qualify EMC Directive on the complete installation again. 6. Length of set up time is measured at first cold start. Turning ON/OFF the power supply may lead to increase of the set up time.

What markets and mains voltages is the APV-12E-5 designed for?

The APV-12E-5 accepts 180–264VAC (or 254–370VDC), making it designed for European, UK, Australian, and similar high-mains markets operating at 230–240V. It is not appropriate for 100–120V mains environments. Listed safety approvals are EAC TP TC 004 and BS EN/EN 62368-1.

How does the APV-12E-5 differ from the APV-12-5?

The APV-12E-5 datasheet covers the E version only: 5V at 2A (10W) in a 77 × 40 × 29 mm housing, with a 180–264VAC (254–370VDC) input that makes it specific to high-mains regions. It lists EAC TP TC 004 and BS EN/EN 62368-1 safety approval. Check the APV-12-5's own datasheet for its input range and certifications.

Can the APV-12E-5 power a 5V addressable LED pixel installation in Europe?

Not for LED lighting in the EU. The APV-12E-5 delivers 5V at 2A for up to 10W from 230V mains, but its datasheet states it is not intended for LED lighting luminaire applications in the EU, where MEAN WELL recommends the LPF, NPF or XLG series. For other 5V loads, keep the total within 10W.

How long a 5V LED strip can the APV-12E-5 support?

The APV-12E-5 provides 10W at 5V. At a 5V strip rated at 5 W/m, the maximum supported length is about 2 m. Divide 10W by your strip's rated power per meter to determine your limit, and verify your strip's rated power per meter before specifying.
