Overview

APV-16E-5 is the 5V output model of this series: rated current 2.6A, rated power 13W, typical efficiency 75%.

APV-16E series is one 16W AC/DC constant voltage mode single output LED power supply. It accepts input 180~264VAC and provides four models with different output voltage, 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, respectively, that the small wattage LED applications employ the most frequently. Exploiting Class II design (without FG pin) and adopting the 94V-0 flame retardant plastic enclosure, APV-16E ideally fits the entry-level LED applications.

Test conditions and notes9

1. All parameters NOT specially mentioned are measured at 230VAC input, rated load and 25℃ of ambient temperature.
2. Ripple & noise are measured at 20MHz of bandwidth by using a 12" twisted pair-wire terminated with a 0.1uf & 47uf parallel capacitor.
3. Tolerance : includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
4. Derating may be needed under low input voltage. Please check the static characteristics for more details.
5. The power supply is considered as a component that will be operated in combination with final equipment. Since EMC performance will be affected by the complete installation, the final equipment manufacturers must re-qualify EMC Directive on the complete installation again. 6. Length of set up time is measured at first cold start. Turning ON/OFF the power supply may lead to increase of the set up time.

What is the APV-16E-5 input requirement, and where is it used?

The APV-16E-5 accepts 180–264VAC (or 254–370VDC), designed for European and other 230–240V mains markets. It does not operate on 100–120V supplies. Safety approvals listed on its datasheet are BS EN/EN 62368-1 and EAC TP TC 004.

Can the APV-16E-5 drive a 5V addressable LED strip installation in Europe?

Not as an LED lighting luminaire. The APV-16E-5 delivers 5V at 2.6A for up to 13W from 230V mains, but its datasheet states it is not intended for LED lighting luminaire applications in the EU, where MEAN WELL recommends the LPF/NPF/XLG series. For other 5V loads, keep the total within 13W.

How long a 5V LED strip can the APV-16E-5 support?

The APV-16E-5 provides 13W at 5V. At a strip rated 5 W/m, that supports approximately 2.6 m. Divide 13W by your strip's rated power per meter to find your maximum run, and check your strip's rated power per meter before purchasing.
